In proximity, elements that are placed together are perceived to be similar and associated with each other compared to elements that are placed apart,
The placement of the lift buttons as seen in Figure 4.4 shows the use of proximity in design. The "open" and "close" buttons are placed close together while the number buttons are also arranged close together within the same distance from each other. However, the "open" and "close" buttons are placed further apart from the number buttons. This indicates that the number buttons and "open/close" buttons are not that related as compared to the number buttons itself.
